Are diamonds a girl’s best friend? Perhaps they are on Saturn and Jupiter according to some researchers who hypothesize that heat, pressure and chemical conditions on these two giant planets may be conducive to the production of diamonds – diamonds that may rain down through the atmosphere.
This research opens up new and interesting ways to look at the composition and mineral wealth of the solar system. As for me, I am working on the development of my Hydrogen Integral Squeezing System (HISS) in order to produce more helium – because the world needs more helium.

We had dinner with friends on Saturday and the conversation turned, unsurprisingly, to food. There were fried twinkies a la mode on the dessert menu. As you can tell, this restaurant was one of those up-scale places. We talked about the number of things that people try to fry – usually in the context of county or state fair food. I have heard of ice cream, pickles and even beer.
Coincidentally, today I saw this story on Fair Food at Good Eats.
The photo above shows a deep fried Klondike Bar. There are a number of other interesting concepts on the slide show at the link above. What would you do-oo-oo to a Klondike Bar?
What is tattoo Tuesday about?
October 15, 2013Tattoo Tuesday is about jellyfish – because I think they pretty and interesting. I remember gathering and studying little pink ctenophores – which are comb jellies – relatives of jellyfish, when I was in college on a biology field trip to Chesapeake Bay. We tromped around the Bay in February, gathering specimens and studying them in the Marine Fisheries Lab nearby. I was particularly taken with the comb jellies. Their rows of cilia undulated down their bodies, propelling them along. Fascinating to watch.

This story appeared in the Daily Mail about an intrepid Norwegian Forest Cat defending his yard from this red fox. The fox appears not to be taking any chances. There’s more to the story here.
My Sammy (Cmdr. Samuel Vimes) is a Maine Coon and he has a more outgoing personality. I found in once him in the backyard trying to play with an opossum. Not smart – no damage, however. For this reason (and others), Sammy now dominates the house, but not the yard or the neighborhood.
Bonus Sappy Cat -Jill appears to know that her owner is going away for the weekend – and has plans to tag along.
What am I knitting?
October 10, 2013I know, the title of this blog is Gunsmoke and KNITTING and I have not posted much on either subject lately.
This one, however, is about knitting. I recently traveled to Pittsburgh to see my brother and other things. My brother lives in Ligonier, PA. Ligonier is really a charming town with a lot of little shops – including Bo Peep Fine Yarns. I had to stop there.
So this is the sock yarn I purchased there:
And I bought this yarn because it was pretty and sparkly. I don’t know what I am going to do with it, but would appreciate any suggestions:

Today in the year 1542, Juan Cabrillo, or more correctly, João Rodrigues Cabrilho (he was Portugese, you see), first set foot on Santa Catalina Island. He landed at what was to become California in September of that year, making him the first European visitor to the Golden State.
I applaud his choice, we had a great time last month in California, including a stop at Point Loma where the monument to Cabrillo (Cabrilho) is located. The monument is under the management of the National Park Service, so maybe today is not the best day to visit.
