What am I playing?

March 31, 2016

This is an Oscar winning short film on glass blowing.  In this film, glass blowing – always fascinating to watch – traditional techniques are juxtaposed with more modern methods – all set to music.  I love the way the man works with his pipe in his mouth and does not miss a beat.

How does my garden grow?

March 24, 2016

This lovely video showing coral has been extremely time-compressed, so that movement that took place over hours is seen in just seconds.  I do know that coral are animals, so this is not really a garden!

They seem kind of OCD, but I may try the t-shirt techniques – especially the last one.

Why am I saying goodnight?

March 21, 2016

last sunset

“For researchers at NOAA’s South Pole Atmospheric Baseline Observatory, Sunday March 20 marks the start of the austral autumn, the last time they see the sun for six months.

In the Northern Hemisphere, the spring equinox promises warmer days.

In the observatory, that is part of the U.S. Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, in winter, it’s so cold aircraft can’t fly and scientists are marooned until late October.

“It’s the coldest, driest, flattest place you can imagine,” said NOAA Corps LT Jesse Milton.”

What am I cooking?

March 16, 2016

jello pie

  • dissolve 1 package (3 oz.) any flavor of Jell-O Gelatin in 1-3/4 cups of boiling water
  • stir in 1 pint of vanilla ice cream until melted
  • chill until very thick
  • fold in 1 cup of drained, sweetened, sliced, fresh strawberries or 1 package (10 oz.) drained, thawed Birds Eye Strawberry Halves
  • pour into 8″ crumb crust
  • chill until firm
  • garnish with more berries

I remember this.  My mom and my aunts used to make it – with boysenberries in black raspberry jello.  It was wonderful.

From retro recipes

Some Jello history is here.
