What am I knitting?

And sappy cat blogging . . .

anna mo2

Anna Mo knits with chunky spools of wool, utilizing giant needles to produces the three-inch stitches that comprise her blankets, wraps, and now tiny pet beds. The animal-focused textiles mimic the appearance of her human accessories, crafted in bright blue, pink, and orange encasements that are perfect for the upcoming winter. Due to the round shape of the beds they even begin to look like spools of yarn themselves, hollowed out to perfectly snuggle your pooch or kitty.

From Bookshelf, this B&B, which in this case stands for Book and Bed, an establishment in Tokyo catering to travelers who read.  Looks like my house.

“Book And Bed is an ‘accommodation bookshop’. Shared shower, toilet and shower space are available as well as two types of bed, compact and standard. The new hostel targets overseas and out of town travelers. Day rates as well as overnight.”

An event that has long held my interest is Zibelemärit, the Bern Onion Festival, which takes place on the fourth Monday of November every year in Switzerland.  Activities for this traditional market festival start early.  By 5:00 am crowds are gathering around the stalls that feature all kinds of onions, of course, but also garlic, onion tarts, onion soup, and necklaces of sugar onions in colorful wrappings that are worn like Mardi Gras beads.  Other offerings are hot mulled Glühlwein, cheese tarts and Züpfe, a braided milk bread that comes from nearby Emmental.  Local produce, restaurant stalls, children throwing confetti, and musical entertainment round out the festival that lasts on into the evening.

Sometime in the past the Onion Festival merged with the Chachelimärit, or potters market. A traditional market for local potters. For me, as a potter, that is a must see.  Maybe next year.
