What am I sappy cat blogging?

March 7, 2014

He puts his cheek against mine
and makes small, expressive sounds.
And when I’m awake, or awake enough

he turns upside down, his four paws
in the air
and his eyes dark and fervent.

“Tell me you love me,” he says.

“Tell me again.”

Could there be a sweeter arrangement? Over and over
he gets to ask.

This is from Dog Songs by Mary Oliver, to which I was introduced on Brainpickings.

Mary Oliver is a Pulitzer Prize winning poet.  Oh, how I wish I could write like that.

  1. Nice. Let us look forward to the coming weekend and the multiplication of love that will surely ensue…

    • I hope so, too.

  2. I should have known you were a fan of Mary Oliver! 🙂

    • Isn’t that a lovely thought. Isn’t she a great poet.
