Slices of wedding cake from English royal weddings are given to guests in little boxes. The slices may be consumed, of course, or kept as mementos of the occasion. Keeping them is what many people do and,
” Through the 20th century, boxed cake souvenirs persisted. In fact, they’ve become collectors’ items, going for thousand of dollars at auction. A slice of wedding cake from the wedding of Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor sold for $29,900 in 1998.”
Here are a couple of others. The article noted that it did not think that Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s cake would be a keeper, being made of lemon and elder flower, rather than the traditional and more robust fruitcake.

The Sumburgh Head Foghorn is a striking landmark. Recently restored and re-painted, the bright red trumpet points out to sea as it has since it was built in 1905 and put into operation in 1906.
The Foghorn was last sounded in 1987, but will now sound again on special occasions.
It takes around 25 psi to power the foghorn – the pressure being generated by the engines in the Engine Room. During the refurbishment project, the foghorn was returned to working order and is, we think, the last working foghorn in Scotland!

National Cookie Day
December 4, 2021My extensive research on the subject indicates that many cookies have their own special day – chocolate chip cookie day, Chinese almond cookie day, sugar cookie day, etc. – however today is THE National Cookie Day, a celebration of all things cookie!

Here at Fancy-pants University, we are invited to use the school’s 3-D printer to make a university-themed cookie cutter . . .

Many bakeries and restaurants are running cookie specials.
I think I will bake some cookies and appreciate the musings of my favorite philosopher . . .
