Slices of wedding cake from English royal weddings are given to guests in little boxes. The slices may be consumed, of course, or kept as mementos of the occasion. Keeping them is what many people do and,
” Through the 20th century, boxed cake souvenirs persisted. In fact, they’ve become collectors’ items, going for thousand of dollars at auction. A slice of wedding cake from the wedding of Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor sold for $29,900 in 1998.”
Here are a couple of others. The article noted that it did not think that Prince Harry and Megan Markle’s cake would be a keeper, being made of lemon and elder flower, rather than the traditional and more robust fruitcake.
