I love maps

February 18, 2024

I have always loved maps. I was the family navigator in the days before internet maps and enjoyed following our route and pointing out things on the way that sounded interesting.

For fun I read the atlas and collected globes.

The map above is a map of the UK and Ireland with all of the place names the titles of songs. More can be found here.

This an interesting and ambitious map by Anton Thomas – hand drawn and colored – showing all of the animals in North American. He has a global map, as well. See more at his site here.

This is an early New Yorker cover featuring one of Jules Steinberg’s perspective maps. I always got a kick out of these.

This is our route in the UK the time we took the Queen Mary 2 from NY to Southampton.

I made maps when I was a kid – you know, of the neighborhood and so forth. And I still do this kind of thing for trips and vacations, such as a trip to Maine above.

Our local bookstore used to have a map of all of the authors who live in our area. I love maps.

They have to be there somewhere . . . everything else is!
