Appointment with Dr. Smith & Wesson
July 12, 2009I left work a little early last week for an appointment. My appointment was at the range. It was ladies’ day with free range time. This is somethi
ng I don’t do often enough, and living in the suburbs makes plinking impractical.
I spent some time with a .45 M1911, a .45 M1917, and a .32 M1903.
I don’t want to shoot baby animals. I don’t want to shoot up people with whom I disagree. Target shooting, however, involves skills that take discipline and practice. Invest enough time in a systematic way and I see improvement.
I like having and honing that skill set. I like knowing how to load my gun, clear a jam, sight on a target and use feedback to improve my aim. I like the aroma of gun powder. I like knowing how to break down and clean my gun. I like knowing how to handle it safely.
I especially like the blig blam of the .45

And it lets you take your frustrations out 🙂 Seriously, range time is worth its weight in gold, simply for the muscle memory drills. And yes, .45s ROCK!
