This is what I call green energy

Last fall I had a little white pumpkin on my front steps.
Eventually, the squirrels, etc., had their way with it and I put it in the flower bed beside the steps and did not think any more about it.
The other day I found this:

Thoughts while driving

I do a great deal of my productive thinking while in the car. My commute is not long, but I have also found it a good place to develop ideas and plans. Having a companion in the car is also helpful. It provides someone to use as a sounding board.
Anyway to reason for this train of thought stems from an auto-related conversation this morning. Under consideration was my question about why the Navy has such an apparently good safety record on nuclear subs, while the private sector often has really had lots of problems from “unusual events” (Davis-Besse, 1985) to “local emergencies” (Three Mile Island, 1979), to “oh, @#$*” (Chernobyl, 1986).
I think nuclear power, along with other technologies, should be a good idea. It should be safe(r), and should provide a good, long-lasting source of energy. We don’t seem to have spent the time to make it as viable as it could be. I suspect oil interests may be part of the reason for that.
However, with the BP problem in the Gulf, it seems we don’t have successful technology for using our gas and oil reserves either – and we have been doing that for over 150 years.
Puppy love
June 3, 2010I was browsing Etsy and found this wonderful sterling silver dog nose pendant. I am an Etsy fan as well as having an Etsy presence with Halcyon Pottery.
I can’t imagine my cats holding putting up with getting molds made of their noses – kitty paws, maybe.
Anyway, I think there are lots of clever ideas around and Etsy is one place to find them.
This, however, doesn’t work so well.

Happy Root Beer Day

On this day in 1866 root beer was invented by Hires. But I think some kind of root beer-like drink probably existed even earlier than that.
I once tried to make root beer. The process is easy. The recipe is simple. My mistake was bottling the drink in reusable glass bottles. I don’t think they make those anymore. The glass was not robust enough to stand up to the process of carbonation. I wound up with root beer bombs in my fruit cellar and was dodging shrapnel for a number of weeks.
When my son was little he told his Sunday school teacher that his favorite drink was beer. He neglected to say that it was root beer. Kids will do that to you every time.
To celebrate Root Beer Day, I suggest going down to the A&W and hoisting a frosty one.
