September 24, 2024This little mechanical prehistoric fish, part of exhibit at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, depicts Dunkleosteus terrelli, a giant armored fish that roamed the shallow sea that one covered much of the state of Ohio. That is my sister-in-laws hand making it move.

The museum is currently undergoing a vast renovation with tantalizing new exhibits being unveiled bit by bit.
Dunkleosteus is the state fossil fish of Ohio – not to be confused with the state fossil of Ohio, which is the trilobite, Osotelus maximus, which could grow to be about 20 inches long.

It is thought that Dunkleosteus terrelli, on the other hand, could grow to be between 11 and 28 feet in length.
