Ballybran?

I never got into her dragons stories, but I was fascinated by the Crystal Singer series by Anne McCaffrey. News of the discovery of a planet with a high carbon content and, possibly, a diamond core reminded me of Ballybran, the crystal planet. This was the planet whose crystals made space flight and real time communication possible across light years – and depended on crystal singers to mine the gems. Light reading, but in my opinion, well-written.
This is one of those things that I always hope will or can happen. Just like the dilithium crystal drive, and the transporter. (Dog-gone laws of physics!)
